What Are Porcelain Crowns?

Hear What A Real Patient Has To Day

A Totally Different Patient Whose Problems Were Solved In Just a Matter of a Few Visits

There are several different types of crowns (also known as caps) used for different reasons. These include:

  • All metal (usually gold) crowns

  • Porcelain Fused to Metal

  • All porcelain

These crowns are used in different areas of the mouth to treat different types of needs. All metal crowns, although not used as often today as in the past, are used in the back of the mouth where esthetics is not usually an issue. The advantages of all metal crowns is purely their strength.

Porcelain fused to metal crowns are used just about anywhere in the mouth where strength and esthetics is an issue.

Finally, all porcelain crowns (and even bridges) are currently being used where esthetics is of the utmost importance. This involves not only front teeth but all teeth that are visible when you smile. Just think of a stage and the players that occupy it when you go to the theatre. The mouth is your stage, and the teeth the players. Which players are visible can help determine your esthetic needs.
